Some trackers track you when you go to your favorite websites or when you make purchases online, which is why it can sometimes feel like an ad is following you around the web showing you items you recently purchased or viewed. The new Microsoft Edge browser has adopted the Chromium open-source project code base and offers better web compatibility and performance over the legacy edge. The new Edge is designed to detect and block known trackers or lets you decide what trackers to block. Edge provides these three levels of tracking prevention:

Basic: Blocks potentially harmful trackers but allows most other trackers and those that personalize content and ads.  Balanced (Recommended): Blocks potentially harmful trackers and trackers from sites you haven’t visited. Content and ads will likely be less personalized. Strict: Blocks potentially harmful trackers and most trackers across sites. Content and ads will likely have minimal personalization.

Below is how to restrict how browser trackers track you online.

How to restrict browser tracking Microsoft Edge

As mentioned above, browser trackers can collect data about your browsing behavior, including how you view and interact with the content on the site. If you do not want the website tracking your activities online, you can’t turn off or restrict tracking so that most trackers are blocked in Microsoft Edge, and the steps below show you how. In Microsoft Edge, select Settings and more (ellipses at top right) > Settings.  On the Settings page, go to the Privacy, search, and services link on the left. Then under Tracking prevention, toggle the button to the On position. Alternatively, you can use the URL below to go directly to the privacy settings page. Select the level of tracking prevention that’s right for you. To block most trackers online, use the Strict option. You can exit the Edge settings page.

How to allow browser trackers in Microsoft Edge

If you don’t want to completely disable or prevent all tracking in Edge, you can turn tracking prevention and choose a balanced level as highlighted below. In Microsoft Edge, select Settings and more (ellipses at top right) > Settings. On the Settings page, go to the Privacy, search, and services link on the left. Then under Tracking prevention, toggle the button to the On position to disable browser tracking. Alternatively, you can use the URL below to go directly to the privacy settings page. Select the level of tracking prevention that’s right for you. That should do it! Conclusion: This post showed you how to restrict browser trackers in Microsoft Edge.
